Excess of 120,000 lbs or extreme weight on any axle grouping is considered a super load and requires a bridge analysis.

Single trip permits are issued for five (5) days.
OPERATING TIME

WEEKEND TRAVEL
Travel for oversize vehicles which are 14'0" or less wide, 75'0" or less long, 10'0" or less overhang and 14'0" or less high is allowed where appropriate from sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week. Vehicles traveling only on Interstate or APD routes can travel with dimensions which are 14'0" or less wide, 95'0" or less long, 15'0" or less overhang and 14'6" or less high from sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week. Oversize vehicles exceeding these dimensions up to and including 16'0" wide can travel from sunrise to sunset, Monday through Friday. Travel for vehicles exceeding 16'0" wide is allowed only on Sunday mornings.
Travel for vehicles that are overweight up to and including 110,000 pounds but not oversize is allowed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Overweight vehicles exceeding 110,000 pounds can travel from sunrise to sunset, Monday through Friday.
Routes which cannot safely accommodate the above dimensions or weights may be rerouted or denied or have more restrictive travel times.
Weekend travel, when allowed is given upon request; haulers should note on their application if they desire weekend travel.
DIVISIBLE LOADS
Property transported under a permit shall be loaded to reduce a minimum the excess over statutory size or gross weight limitations, an oversize vehicle used for transporting loads under a permit shall be reduced to statutory size limitations if practicable when being operated without load.
EXCEPTIONS
Blades, buckets, counterweights, etc must be removed if width exceeds 12' wide.
INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER A WIDE LOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMIT
A detailed description of the vehicle and its registration, axle spacings and weights and measurements, a detailed description of the proposed load including the manufacturer's name and model number of any equipment being transported. The particular portion of the highway or the specific point of crossing of the highway for which the permit to operate is requested.

Restricted Travel
Drivers may be restricted on travel by reason of determination; rain, snow or other climatic conditions. WV turnpike - a unit including its towing vehicle and load whose overall dimensions do not exceed the statutory limits given below may operate on the VW turnpike without a special permit. The limits are 80' long, 14' wide and 13'10" high, 304-925-4906. A vehicle over these dimensions may obtain a permit at the WV Turnpike Toll Plaza. The maximum dimensions are 95' long, 14' wide and 16' high. Anything over these dimensions will need special approval from the Turnpike Administration Office Prior to arriving at the toll plaza. The cost of all oversize unit permits shall be $3.50 per toll plaza traveled through. All vehicles over 14' wide are restricted to Sunday travel only.

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
On secondary highways only generally from January through April, limited to a 90-day period within one year. When spring weight restrictions are in effect, posted weights apply.
Overweight, Oversized & Wide Load Super Loads
Super loads are considered anything that exceeds 110,000 lbs gross, 45,000 lbs on a tandem or 50,000 lbs on a tridum or more. Width, length and height do not fall under super load, but anything over 110' long, 15' wide or 15' high has to be approved by a state engineer. Loads less than 200,000 lbs will generally be issued within 5 days. Phone 304-558-2883.
